The Legacy Behind the Rainbow System. A Century of Innovation. A World of Clean Air.
The Legacy Behind the Rainbow System. A Century of Innovation. A World of Clean Air.
The journey began in the 1920s when John W. Newcombe invented the separator — a technology to separate dust from air. Leslie H. Green saw its potential, and in 1929, founded Rexair, meaning "King of the Air."
Even during the Great Depression, Rexair thrived, launching its first water-based filtration cleaner in 1936. Since then, the company has continued to lead the cleaning industry with constant innovation, customer care, and global impact.
First water-based dust separator
Since 1936, Rexair LLC has been a pioneer in revolutionizing the way the world thinks about clean homes and healthy air. Headquartered in Troy, Michigan, USA, Rexair is the proud manufacturer of the Rainbow Cleaning System — a one-of-a-kind, water-based cleaning solution that has changed lives in over 80 countries.
Built for War. Ready for the World.
In 1941, Rexair merged with Martin-Parry Corporation, boosting its manufacturing power. During WWII, the company produced radar cases, rocket launchers, and ship parts — playing a vital role in the war effort. After the war, Rexair emerged stronger than ever, ready to bring world-class innovation into homes across America.
One Vision. A National Breakthrough.
By 1948, Rexair sales were soaring — thanks in part to a bold young salesman named J.V. “Sandy” Sanders from Kentucky. Inspired by a product demo, he set out to become Rexair’s best. By 1953, Sandy was leading the charge as one of five national Regional Managers, proving that with Rexair, one opportunity can spark a lifetime of success.

Innovation Scaled Up
In 1969, Rexair opened a 100,000 sq. ft. facility in Cadillac, Michigan, marking a new era of growth and innovation. From the Power Nozzle to the AquaMate, Rainbow introduced advanced tools that set new industry standards. In 1980, the all-new D3 model arrived — the first to feature wet pick-up and a cooler-running motor, redefining what home cleaning could do.
From Local Legend to Global Icon
Though Rexair expanded into Canada, Cuba, and Mexico as early as 1947, the 1980s marked Rainbow’s global rise. A dedicated international network brought Rainbow to homes worldwide — customized for every market. In 1986, to celebrate 50 years of excellence, Rexair launched the D4: a breakthrough model J.V. Sanders proudly called “the best Cleaning System on the face of the earth.
A New Era of Leadership
In 2001, Paul Vidovich, a former top distributor with decades of hands-on experience, became Rexair’s Chairman, President, and CEO. With deep roots in direct sales and a vision for global growth, Paul led Rexair into the new millennium — driving record success across both U.S. and international markets.
Enter the SRX — The Ultimate Cleaning System
After three years of development, Rexair unveiled the Rainbow SRX — its most advanced system ever. With 20+ new features, a powerful four-speed motor, and 30% stronger airflow, the SRX sets a new global standard.
